Bass Rock, Firth of Forth, July 2017.
The Bass Rock is an amazing place to visit. It is home to the world's largest colony of gannets with around 150 000 birds present during the breeding season. The Rock itself is an old volcanic plug and is spectacular in its own right. This painting was done from down by the landing stage, with some preliminary drawing in pastel pencil and then watercolour added quickly. It seems fairly complete in itself and probably as "finished" as anything I'm likely to do in the field.
